Ark Vetcare Work Experience (4th to 8th of December)
On the week of the 4th to the 8th of December, I did one of my weeks of work experience in a veterinary clinic in Stillorgan. I had to be in by 8 a.m each day, so I had to get up quite early so I was very tired at the end of the week. On the plus side though, I finished at 1 p.m so I could get home early.
All week I was doing the same things; such as cleaning up after the operations, cleaning the kennels after the animals went home. The vet only dealt with dogs and cats. There was also rooms for people to leave their cats when they go on holidays, which I had to clean out each day.
The first day of the week, I was very tired as I had to get up at 7. When I got there, I got a tour of the office and I was given my first job, which was to hang out some laundry. After I finished that I went down to the operating room and watched the vets work. On the first day there weren't to many clients so I wasn't that busy. There were a few dogs getting operations so I watched the vets do them.
The next day was busier so I had more to do. I mostly did the same jobs but there were more operations so the day was more interesting.
On Wednesday, I, once again did mostly the same jobs, like cleaning out the kennels, hanging out laundry and mopping the floors. There was a fair amount of clients, so I got to watch quite a few operations.
Thursday was quite a boring day as there were hardly any animals in, so I didn't really have anything to do. The vets had a talk about pet food from their suppliers and I was allowed to sit in and listen to that. I found it quite interesting.
I really enjoyed my week working in a veterinary clinic as it was very interesting to see what happens in a vets office behind the doors. Working in a vets office allowed me get a better idea of what I want to do in the future.
