Self Defence Course
On Monday the 23rd of October and Tuesday the 24th of October, we had two days of self-defence classes and training.
On Monday, we started the day off with a presentation from the man doing the course about why we need self-defence and how to avoid confrontations. He also showed us videos of fights so we could see the signs of a fight starting.
After break, we went down to the sports hall to start the actual training. The trainer showed us basic strikes, kicks and takedowns. He also showed us how to intercept punches.
After lunch, he showed us some ground fighting and we all had turns grappling with each other. He also showed us some more advanced strikes, such as elbow strikes.
On Tuesday, we spent the entire day in the sports hall. During the day, he showed us more advanced strikes, kicks and takedowns. He also showed us how to disarm someone with a weapon. At the end of the day we had an assessment, which included doing 50 of each basic strike and kick, 10 combinations of the strikes, 5 takedowns along with push-ups, sprints, squats and burpees. It was exhausting.
The coach said that we would do another day of the course later on in the year to cover more ground fighting and to use body suits so we could try the techniques in a real situation.
This course was enjoyable and very beneficial as the things that you learn during the course could save your life one day.
